The walkthrough

The guided walkthrough

One customer request, followed all the way through: what a maintenance manager asked for, what the agent has to be able to read, which of three assemblies survives the requirement, and the point where it stops and hands the decision back to a person.

Send Me the Sample Report

We will send the sample report, then a short series on what an agent-ready site does and where agent journeys break. One click unsubscribes and we will not email again.

THE GUIDED WALKTHROUGH

One request, followed to the point where it stops.

A maintenance manager needs two hydraulic hoses. Step through the seven stages of that request: what the page has to mean, what an agent can do with it, and the decision that stays with a person.

Read this before you step through it. Northbank Fluid Power is invented, and so is its catalog, its account number and its customer. Everything below is a written record of what an agent would do on a distributor's page in a browser that supports WebMCP: nothing here executes, no result is a real agent return, and no request is sent anywhere. The hydraulic standards it cites are real.

What is really registered, and how to try WebMCP

The six tools in this walkthrough illustrate what a hydraulics distributor would declare after a retrofit. They are not registered here. The tools this site does declare are listed at /.well-known/webmcp-tools.json, and a supporting browser can call them. WebMCP is experimental: it is in origin trial in Chrome 149–156 and in Microsoft Edge, and in Chrome you can also enable it locally at chrome://flags/#enable-webmcp-testing, then reload this page.

Demonstration case 01: Compatibility Commerce

Company
Northbank Fluid Power
Sector
Industrial distribution: hydraulic hose and fittings
Catalog path
/hose-assemblies/ha-2308-jj-60
Part numbers
HA-[series][dash]-[end codes]-[length in inches]. Series 21 = SAE 100R1AT, 23 = 100R2AT, 24 = 100R12. Dash 08 = 1/2 in ID, 12 = 3/4 in ID. JJ = JIC 37° female swivel at both ends.
Why this case
Compatibility is the whole purchase decision. Three assemblies look identical in a photograph, and two of them will not do the job: one is rated below the pressure, one will not thread onto the port. A person catches that by reading a specification table. An agent catches it only if the table is a set of fields.

Northbank Fluid Power does not exist. This case describes what a distributor's product page would expose after an Agent-Ready Retrofit, and what an agent could then do with it. Nothing here was measured on a customer's website, and none of these tools are registered on this one.

What the customer said

I need two replacement hoses for the lift cylinder on our forklift. They see about 3,000 psi, the ports are half-inch JIC female swivel, and I need 60 inches. Get me the right ones.

A maintenance manager, on a shop floor, in a hurry.

Written the way a customer would actually say it.

The whole request in one object: six calls, in order, ending where the agent stops. It is printed with the case rather than inside a stage because it is the only thing true of every stage. No durations: durations in this system are real elapsed times, a written record has none, and inventing one would be the fake live result this page exists to refuse.

Choose a stage. The walkthrough shows one stage at a time, in order.

Stage 1 of 7Reads REQUIREMENT

What is the customer actually asking for?

The sentence above, decomposed into the constraints a machine has to hold to answer it, including the one nobody said out loud, and the four the sentence never settles.

What the request does not say

  • The fluid. Petroleum-based is the catalog default, and the agent has to say so rather than assume it silently.

  • The temperature the assembly runs at.

  • Whether the customer wants the cheapest option that fits, or the closest match to what was removed.

  • A delivery date. "In a hurry" is not a date, and the agent does not invent one.

An agent that fills these in from habit is guessing. It has to ask, or say which default it took.

Every stage, printed in full

The seven stages above, with their records complete. This is the whole of the walkthrough for a reader whose script does not run, and for any agent that reads the page rather than operating it. Fictional demonstration company · illustrative workflow · not client results.

Which options survive the requirement?

reads OPTIONS

  • HA-2108-JJ-60 · SAE 100R1AT · single wire braid · 1/2 in · 60 in · $61.20 · rejected · 2,600 psi is below the 3,000 psi the customer stated. It threads on, it fits the routing, and it is the cheapest of the three, which is exactly why this is the mistake a hurried person makes from a photograph.
  • HA-2308-JJ-60 · SAE 100R2AT · two wire braid · 1/2 in · 60 in · $84.20 · selected · 3,625 psi clears the stated 3,000 psi with the 4:1 design factor intact, the -8 ends thread onto the port, and the bend radius matches what was removed.
  • HA-2412-JJ-60 · SAE 100R12 · four spiral · 3/4 in · 60 in · $132.75 · rejected · Rated well above the requirement and still wrong: 1-1/16-12 UN ends will not mate with a -8 port. Higher pressure is not compatibility.

  • Produced Two assemblies cut from bulk hose and crimped to length
  • Charged $168.40, to the payment method the customer enters
  • consequence Cutting is irreversible. Once the hose is cut to 60 inches it is not catalog stock, and Northbank does not restock it.
  • consequence This product is not returnable, and the page says so beside the price rather than in a policy page.

WebMCP does not enforce human confirmation. Nothing in the browser stops a site from letting an agent complete this order unattended. The gate is built into the page, which means a page that omits it has no gate at all.

Did the task finish?

reads COMPLETION

The customer read every argument, approved the line, and entered payment. The agent did the reading, the comparison and the assembly of the order; the person made the decision that could not be undone.

  • satisfied Did every specification come from a named field rather than a sentence? · Each reading carries `source`, naming the field it was published in.
  • satisfied Can a person check every value the agent used? · Each reading carries `humanParity`, naming where the same value is printed on the page.
  • satisfied Was the cheaper option rejected for a stated, checkable reason? · HA-2108-JJ-60 carries `verdict: rejected` and a reason naming 2,600 psi against 3,000.
  • satisfied Did the compatibility check name the standard it checked against? · check_port_compatibility returns 3/4-16 UNF per SAE J514, not a yes.
  • satisfied Did any read tool change the state of the order? · Declared access: 5 read-only · 1 write, gated by human confirmation.
  • satisfied Did the agent stop before the step that could not be undone? · The last row of the trace is prepare_assembly_order, waiting for a person.
  • satisfied Could the person see every argument before deciding? · The confirmation lists all of them, with nothing collapsed or summarized.
  • not satisfied Was the stop enforced by the browser? · WebMCP has no confirmation gate. The stop is implemented by the page. · That is the honest answer. The gate is a design decision, not a platform guarantee.
  • not measured Revenue, order value or conversion rate. Northbank Fluid Power does not exist, so it has none.
  • not measured Time saved, clicks avoided or any other efficiency figure. Nobody ran this.
  • not measured How often a real agent gets a comparison like this right. That is measured per site, in a Surface Report, against the client's own URLs.
  • not measured Any comparison against another company's website.

Does it still work next month?

reads OBSERVATION

What happens to this journey the next time the site is deployed?

Structured-data and machine-file monitoring run continuously. Full agent journey tests run monthly, and after any deployment you tell us about.

  • max_working_pressure stops being published as a field after a template change, and the rating goes back into a paragraph.
  • The non-returnable fact detaches from the product and reverts to a site-wide policy link.
  • check_port_compatibility starts answering for -12 ports that cannot thread onto a -8 port.
  • prepare_assembly_order returns a total that differs from the total printed on the page.
  • The tools stay registered after the account signs out.

Nothing is being monitored here. This is the test list a real engagement would run against real URLs, not a monitoring history.

Can an agent finish the job on your website?

We will test the journeys that create revenue, show you where agents get stuck, and build the semantic and action layers needed to move them forward.
